An upright freezer provides maximum storage capacity from the smallest of floor spaces. In professional kitchens with higher ceilings but limited room, using a vertical freezer is a practical and efficient solution for holding large quantities of frozen food or ingredients. While a chest freezer may be more spacious for holding bulky items, a tall freezer will have adjustable shelves that can be rearranged depending on the size of stock.
The smallest single door upright freezers only need 600mm x 600mm of floor space, yet still offer usable capacities of more than 250 litres. Larger double-door units can offer three times as much storage space. For professional caterers, choosing a commercial upright freezer is essential - they are far more powerful than domestic models, offering faster chill recovery rates to cope with the doors being frequently opened. For hotter kitchens, choose a tropical-rated vertical freezer that will run in conditions of up to 43°C.
